Past and Present, visual conjugation.
Yesterday is the past, tomorrow will be the next photograph.
The soul of a city resides in its past. I often find myself trying to picture strangers in another era. The past carries our culture; our language; our history; our people and most of them are easily forgotten. The only things that stay with us are the iconic symbols of our city.
Photographs are drawings of our world and each of them is a precious witness of time and history. Photographs should never be forgotten nor abandoned. I search for old negatives and documents order to give them a second chance to exist. What I discover is my own perception of Hong Kong’s soul.
I walk down unknown streets and get lost just as the anonymous photographers did years ago. I look at the textures, the walls, the people, the action. I want to create a clear contrast between generations, but also let the viewer discover their own perception of Hong Kong.
